Darren Matchell, D.O.

Dr. Matchell received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri. He became a Registered Respiratory Therapist and worked on ambulance and helicopter transport teams at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for eight years.

He received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City. His family practice residency was completed through the University of Missouri Kansas City Family Medicine program.

He comments on his residency training, “Dr. Kellogg and I attended the same residency and I feel that our program has prepared me well for my practice in Northwest Kansas. We were very involved in all aspects of Family Practice from pediatrics to gerontology and the residency program was especially extensive in obstetrics where I received additional training in C-sections, tubal ligations, and other gynecological procedures. Due to my past experience with Children’s Mercy, pediatrics and obstetrics holds a special place in my heart and being a Registered Respiratory Therapist I enjoy working with patients with pulmonary disease including: COPD, asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.”

Dr. Matchell’s practice includes all aspects of Family Medicine from pediatrics to adult medicine. He feels that Family practice allows him to develop long lasting relationships with patients whom the focus then can be on not only dealing with acute problems but in developing a preventative health care program. Dr. Matchell explains his relationships with patients, “I believe I am caring and straightforward with an ear for listening. My practice style and the way I practice medicine is that I merge evidence based medicine with empathy and understanding. I am aggressive with acute problems with an eye towards preventing future health problems.”

Dr. Matchell and his wife Sherri both were born and raised in the Kansas City area. They have four children: Hannah, Joshua, Benjamin, and Noah. When not working, Dr. Matchell enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, biking, other sports, guitar, travel, and church activities.
