Anesthesia can be classified according to the type provided: general, regional, or local.  General anesthesia is the deepest form of anesthesia and depresses your consciousness, pain sensation, and prevents movement during the procedure.  Regional anesthesia provides anesthesia to a portion of your body.  Epidural anesthesia is a form of regional anesthesia.  Local anesthesia provides anesthesia to a small portion of the body during minor procedures such as during the suturing of a laceration.  The goals of anesthesia can include: amnesia, anxiolysis and sedation, analgesia, and muscle relaxation and reflex control.  The type of anesthesia selected is determined by the type of procedure being performed and your health status.  Anesthesia services at Citizens Medical Center, Inc. are provided to our patients by Bob Erwin, CRNA.
